Mad Max Ramble

Guys, why is the weather so weird? Last week it was 90 degrees out, this morning it’s 43 with a high of 61. What is this madness? I guess I shouldn’t complain too much. I prefer cooler weather to overly warm weather, but it’s so hard to know how to dress. It’s also really hard to get out of bed when you’re used to sleeping in shorts with a quilt and half way through the night you find that you should have worn pants and you need another blanket or two to compensate.

I’m so tired, guys. I have not been sleeping well this week. I realize you probably don’t want to hear about my sickness again, and I’m sorry about that, but it’s really hard to think about anything else right now. I’m sleepy and my throat is sore and I keep talking myself into going to Med Express and then talking myself out of it again. I still don’t have a fever so that’s a good sign. I just wish the sore throat part would go away. That’s all I want.

My husband and I have been watching the Mad Max movies in preparation for going to see the new one on Saturday with some friends. We’ve watched the first two and I’m not sure if we’ll get to the third one before Saturday, but we’ll see. I don’t like the first one much. It doesn’t make much sense… any sense, really. My husband and I were trying to figure out if it takes place before or after the apocalypse. Or during, I suppose. It’s a very big shift from the first movie which is pretty civilized and full of corner shops and lawyers of all things; not things you’d think of keeping up after the apocalypse. I guess it works as a sort of rough origin story for Max. Also, Mel Gibson looks totally different as a young man. If I squint and turn my head when I look at him I can kind of recognize him, but I don’t know that I would have picked him out if my husband hadn’t told me he was in it.

That being said, the second movie is much better. It’s fully of 80’s goodness and actually has something of a coherent plot, which is nice. There’s a villain with a motive and the protagonists have a plan and a purpose and it’s much better at tying the whole thing together. However, my one question is, how did the car become iconic? My husband says that the Mad Max car, last V8 Interceptor, is somehow iconic but he only drives it in the last like 5-10 minutes of the first movie, an the first 15 maybe minutes of the second movie before it’s captured and then returned to him for another five minutes, tops, before it’s rolled and blown up. It’s not even that important to the plot. Or important at all, I would say.

Anyway, I did enjoy the second movie much more than the first. My husband seems to like the first, but he doesn’t get as hung up on things like plot as I do. That being said, we will be seeing the fourth movie on Saturday, which apparently has been getting really great reviews. I’ll admit, I didn’t really have any desire to see the new movie when I first heard about it, but now, having seeing the first two, I think I might enjoy it.

Hey Elsa, I have seen the new movie and I loved it! I’m hoping to do a post on it after we see it a second time, hopefully next week.
