Iced Coffee and a Muffin
Happy Monday, dear friends! I know, I know, Mondays are rarely happy, but we can pretend, at least, that they can be happy, and make the most of it. Today I have done something that I never thought I would actually do. I got an iced coffee in January. GASP! I know, right? What is this madness!? I didn’t think I had it in me, but I did it, and I’m a little pleased with myself right now. I also got a muffin, which is another happy thing. I think this Monday is off to a good start.
I believe I’ve discovered the reason I couldn’t bring myself to get an iced coffee before, even though I knew it would be warm inside once I got in out of the cold. It’s because my husband never turns the heat up. We drive to work and he turns up the heat to defrost the windshield and all that but then once it’s, eh, warm-ish, he turns it down again and leaves it there at a not freezing, but a little chilly temperature. I don’t blame him. He’s wearing a coat and he gets so much warmer so much easier than I do. He’s probably perfectly comfortable. I’m not complaining, really, but I also never thought about it before today. I’ll admit, it’s nice to drive up to my parents place and not feel like I’m dying in my winter coat for an hour. However, when it’s a quick trip to drop Logan off and get back to my comfy chair I feel like a little more heat isn’t unreasonable. I just have to remember to turn the heat up. And then it’ll be warm enough for me to comfortably say, “Yes, I’d like an iced coffee please,” to the person behind the drive-thru speaker.
I also, on a whim, got a muffin this morning, which is something I haven’t done in a long time. I’ve kind of missed them, but with my coffee budget I tend to lean towards the save as much on coffee as possible so I can get more coffee mindset. So I haven’t gotten a muffin in a while, but today I had cash, and I’ll need a five on Saturday but all I had were twenties and I haven’t spent hardly anything on coffee this month, probably because I haven’t gone out much this month, so with like $25 left for the next two weeks in coffee I figured I could splurge and feel less bad about breaking a twenty on a $2 cup of coffee. This is why I love Dunkin Donuts. I can get a medium coffee and a muffin for the price of a medium coffee pretty much anywhere else.
The snow blower is going outside again. I don’t mind it so much at 9:30, but when they’re out there at 6:30 am and I still have half an hour to reasonably sleep and I haven’t slept super well all night anyway, I find I’m much less tolerant. I was super confused the first time they used it this year. It was, again, super early in the morning and I had no idea what it was. It sounds like a chainsaw. Well, the hand held one sounds more like a chainsaw than the push one that’s out there now. I know it’s the push one without looking out the window to see because it’s quieter, for one, and I heard him pulling the chain to start it. The other one I do not appreciate. I know you want to keep the sidewalks and parking lot clear, but really, do you have to do it before the sun comes up?
That’s another thing I’m looking forward to about the new place, no noisy cleanup outside; no dump trucks emptying dumpsters, no snow blowers, no leaf blowers. It’ll be lovely. We are closer to the fire house, though, so the siren will probably be louder, if that’s possible. I am not at all a fan of the siren. They say you get used to it after a while, but it hasn’t happened yet. Ah well, at least we’ll be in our own place and any noisy things that need to be done will be done by me. Probably. I might let Logan mow the lawn, but we’ll see. I didn’t get to mow the lawn growing up. The riding mower was too tricky, I guess and then we moved to a yard that was all steep hills and my dad was afraid we’d flip over and roll down them. So I actually have no experience with lawn mowing, but I’m sure I will learn. We are responsible for our own lawn maintenance.
So today I might do more packing. We have tons of boxes now, thanks to our good friends, the Pandas, and lots of packing material so perhaps I’ll start on the living room. I’ll need to take down the pictures and wrap them and then do my tea pots and my owl wax warmer. That seems like good progress for the day. I may also continue putting away my books, though that one makes me a little sad. My shelves are slowly emptying. I’m trying to find things that I know we won’t need in the next three weeks to pack first, which is a little tricky, but we’ll manage. I hope your Monday is quite lovely, my friends!
